Privacy Policy
Last updated July 31, 2026. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what PLINTH does and does not do with your information.
1. The short version
PLINTH is a games-criticism gallery operated at plinthgallery.online. We collect as little as possible. We do not run a database, we do not sell or share your information with anyone, and we do not embed third-party advertising or tracking networks. Everything you submit stays on our own server in plain, local files.
2. The cookie banner and our single cookie
When you first visit, a frosted notice appears at the bottom of the screen asking you to “Admit One.” Accepting it stores a single value in your browser's local storage to remember that you have seen the notice, so we do not show it again. This is the only client-side state we keep. It contains no personal information, no identifier, and no tracking value — it is simply a yes-or-no flag, held in your own browser, that you can clear at any time by clearing your site data.
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site trackers of any kind. There are no pixels, no fingerprinting scripts, and no data brokers in the room.
3. Form submissions are written to secure local flat-files
PLINTH offers two forms: the Private View newsletter and the Request a Private Viewing contact form. When you submit either one, your input is sanitised and appended to a secure local text file on our own server — newsletter sign-ups to subscribers.txt and contact messages to messages.txt. These are ordinary flat-files. There is no database, no cloud processor, and no third-party form service involved at any stage.
The information stored is limited to what you provide: for the newsletter, your email address and the date you subscribed; for the contact form, your name, email address, optional subject and message, and the date you sent it. We use this information only to reply to you and, if you subscribed, to send the Private View letter. We never distribute it to third parties, full stop.
4. What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, your browsing history across other sites, your device fingerprint, or any data beyond what you deliberately type into a form. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not have a relationship with any data broker, exchange, or advertising network.
5. How long we keep it
Newsletter sign-ups are retained until you ask to be removed. Contact messages are retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and a reasonable period thereafter for our records. You may request deletion of either at any time.
6. Your choices and your rights
You can unsubscribe from the Private View, request a copy of any information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. Because everything lives in simple local files, honouring these requests is quick and complete.
7. Security
Form input is sanitised on submission to strip markup and control characters before it is written. The flat-files live on our server and are not publicly served. While no system is perfectly secure, the deliberate simplicity of this setup — no database, no third parties, no sprawling integrations — is itself a security measure: there are very few places for your data to leak from.
8. Children
PLINTH is intended for a general adult audience interested in games criticism and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy are welcome at [email protected]. You can also read our Terms of Service.
The Private View
Subscribe to the Private View for early access to game exhibitions and verdicts
One letter a week from the gallery floor. New exhibits before they open to the public, the full Plinth Score before it posts, and the studio interviews we could not fit on the wall.
